Emergency Response Plan

The St Kilda site has first aid kits, fire extinguishers and a fire blanket, for dealing with small incidents. These are located as shown in the following Site Arrangement diagram. Full directions for use are provided with each item.


More detailed information is provided in the Laboratory Emergency Response Plan for laboratory emergencies.

In the event that First Aid is required, obtain assistance from a staff member with first aid training.

All incidents shall be reported to the Principal Consultant and an incident investigation initiated (extension 804).

In the event of a larger emergency, staff shall exit the buildings and assemble in the car park. Emergency services shall be contacted by phone on 000 (Fire, Ambulance, Police, as required).

Emergencies that occur in the field are dealt with as specified in the monitoring program or sampling plan that is prepared for each field expedition (see the Safety Plan for details). The vehicles are equipped with fire extinguishers, first aid kits, breakdown triangles and locational strobes. Other emergency equipment, as appropriate for each expedition, is available (see the field equipment instruction).
