Job description – Principal Consultant

The Principal Consultant is expected to be widely skilled in the consulting profession. The skills required include:
- Ability to write clear reports for a variety of audiences
- Understanding of ecological processes and systems
- Experience in identification of both flora and fauna
- Ablity to provide input to public debate on environmental issues
- Post graduate educational qualifications in a biological or agricultural science field
- Educational qualifications in risk assessment, contaminated site assessment and management or ecotoxicology.
The principal consultant is responsible for the following:
Management system responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for writing and maintaining the Management System
- Management review and internal audit
- Resolution of Management System discrepancies
- Approval of the Management System documentation (including test methods and instructions)
- Documentation & change control (Management System documents)
- Identification of environmental aspects
- Identification of objectives and targets
Supervision of staff
- Training of other staff, or facilitation of staff training
- Development of appropriate laboratory and field testing methodologies
- Design of procedures for inspection and testing of equipment
- Allocation of staff to current tasks
- Review function for all project work undertaken by staff
Projects - obtaining new projects and delivery of contracted projects
- Quotation and proposal writing
- Control of contract documentation
- Project design control
- Control of equipment and materials allocated
- Undertaking laboratory and field testing
- Delivery of projects including field work, laboratory testing, public record analysis, legislative review, geographic and ecological analysis
- Report production, review and delivery
- Maintaining excellent client relations
Committee work
- Attend meetings and undertake committee work where expertise in coastal ecosystems is required
Supplies and stock
- Supplier selection & purchasing
- Order processing
- Control of stock
- Protection and preservation of stock
- Receiving inspection
